MATCH PREVIEW: Southport FC

Bacup Borough travel to Vanarama National League North side Southport FC on Tuesday evening in the Quarter-Finals of the Lancashire Challenge Trophy.

The Big Help Stadium

Borough come into the game off the back of a solid 1-1 draw away at Ilkley Town AFC on Saturday and will be hoping that they can repeat their impressive performance in the previous round away at NPL side Atherton Collieries.

Southport haven't had the best of fortune in the league so far, but with quality in every position it will certainly be a stern test for Brent Peters team.

Aidan Hussey seems unlikely to make the squad against Southport after limping off on Saturday with twisted ankle. This could open up an opportunity for Peters to add from the U23s or opted with the inclusion of reserve goalkeeper Lewis North.

Borough will look towards Lewis Byrne to lead the line

Talking to the manager about the Southport game, he said; "Southport is going to be a big test for us. We know that we definitely have the players to hurt them if given the chance. And the message from Nigel (Langley) and myself to the players is for them to go out there and enjoy the evening under the floodlights but remembering their roles and responsibilities.

"I'm sure that Southport will not be underestimated us for one second. But we need to remember that against teams higher up the pyramid you need to be constantly on your toes. We can not afford to switch off for one second and invite them on to us. We will set our stall out accordingly and go about our business as we always do."
