Bacup Borough head to North Yorkshire this weekend for an FA Vase clash with Selby Town, knowing they face a difficult afternoon against a side that has made an impressive start to their league campaign.

Borough will travel without goalkeeper Billy Blake, who remains unavailable following the concussion he suffered in the recent league fixture. Stepping into the squad will be Harry Roper, who has joined Borough on short-term cover from Warrington Town.

The visitors will also be without Brady Boardman, Alex Mellor and Mason Fallon, leaving manager Brent Peters with some decisions to make ahead of the trip.

There could, however, be some fresh faces involved, with players from Borough's Shadow Squad potentially being called into the first-team squad for the journey to North Yorkshire.

Selby Town currently play in the NCEL Division One and have enjoyed a strong opening to the season, collecting nine points from their first four league games. Their early form underlines the challenge facing Borough, particularly on their own patch at Richard Street.

For Brent Peters, the FA Vase presents another opportunity for his squad, but he is fully aware that Borough will need to be at their best if they are to come away with a positive result.

Talking to the Borough manager, he said;

“Selby have made a really good start with nine points from their opening four games, so we know we’re going to have to be at our best.

“We’ve got a few players unavailable, including Billy, Brady, Alex and Mason, so it’s going to be a good opportunity for some of the other lads to step up. Harry coming in from Warrington Town gives us some valuable cover in goal, and we may also look at a couple of players from the Shadow Squad.

“The FA Vase is a competition we want to do well in. We know what awaits us at Richard Street, but we’ll go there with a positive mindset, compete from the first whistle and see where it takes us.”
