BORO SHARE THE SPOILS WITH STEETON

Borough came away from the Marley Stadium feeling that it was certainly two points dropped rather than one point gained after playing out a 3-3 draw with Steeton AFC.

Goals from Kyle Siddle, Ellis Horan and Oliver Hodgson were enough to secure a point for Brent Peters team and keep them in sixth place ahead of Euxton Villa on thirteen points.

The home side took the lead through Oliver Kirkpatrick from a corner. The ball was swung into the area by Jake Townsend and Kirkpatrick was the first man to react by attacking the space and flicking his header back towards the far post. It was a disappointing goal to concede, and one that should certainly ask questions of the Borough defence.

Thankfully Borough immediately went down the opposite end and equalised within a matter of seconds. Positive build up down the left hand side found Siddle in space just inside the penalty area where he managed to evade the challenge of two Steeton defenders before rounding James Catlow in the Steeton goal and slotting home from close range.

After the break Borough continued to gather momentum and due to pressure from Michael Gervin in the final third the ball fell nicely into the path of new signing Ellis Horan who from the edge of the penalty area struck a delightful left footed shot into the right hand side of the Steeton net. Frustration from Steeton's manager Roy Mason at the way the goal was conceded, but the speed in which Horan was able to get the ball out of his feet and release the shot left Catlow with no time to set himself and gave Borough a slender lead.

At this point Borough looked in control, and even though the home side tried to generate problems for the Borough defence, it was Brent Peters team that would increase their lead on 84 minutes through Hodgson.

This time Siddle became provider. Excellent movement from Siddle coming off the left hand side into a more central position before playing a well weighted pass into the path of young Hodgson who struck his shot across the goalkeeper and into the left hand corner of the net. A clinical finish from the young man who seems to be settling in well to his new surroundings since joining from Nelson in the summer.

Everything looked like Borough would see out the game with maximum points, but the home side had other ideas. And a delay of almost ten minutes due to an issue in the crowd which only seemed to bother the referee scuppered any momentum Borough may have had.

From the corner Steeton pulled one back. The ball was swung in towards the near post where Joshua Brooks was unable to clear the danger and the goal was awarded to Alex Stewart. Not for the first time this evening Borough's marking at corners was suspect and became a negative topic of conversation.

With the game drifting into additional time Steeton sent more green and white shirts forward in search of an equaliser. A free kick from the right hand side was flighted towards the penalty spot where Joshua Coe went to ground amongst a group of players. In real time it was difficult to see what had taken place, but the referee was in no doubt that an infringement on the Steeton substitute had taken place and immediately pointed to the spot for to award the home side a penalty kick.

Coe then brushed himself down before striding up to the ball and calmly slotting the ball into the bottom left sending Brooks the wrong way. A cool finish under pressure, but frustration and disappointment was eched upon the faces of both Brent Peters and Nigel Langley.

Handshakes all round on a disappointing evening in Keighley. Borough now have several days to regroup and get ready to go again at Nelson's Little Wembley on Saturday.
