WRIGHT REACHES TWENTY GOALS

Bacup Borough forward Toby Wright reached twenty goals for the season on Saturday with a nicely taken volley against Euxton Villa FC.

In recent week's borough's leading goalscorer has been in good form with energetic displays against Steeton AFC, Atherton LR and Euxton Villa FC. And with big games coming up over the next few weeks including two cup semi-finals, the recent impressive form has come at exactly the right time.

Talking to Brent Peters about Toby Wright's performances of late, he said: "Toby is a great lad. He has been brilliant for us ever since he walked through the door, hence why we decided to extend his contract until the summer of 2024.

"There is so much more to come from Toby in my opinion, and what we have seen in the last few games, especially away at Atherton LR last week proves my point because he was unplayable."

I asked Brent what he thought it was that has brought about this rejuvenation in his front man's game. "I'm not 100% sure, but on several occasions I've questioned his temperament and demanded more from him because we believe in his ability. I know that he's been training hard with the fitness coach Ryan Russell working on different aspects of his game. Maybe these aspects have brought about the change, and we're now seeing the fruits of those labours."

Borough have ten league fixtures remaining including two semi-finals to contest so you wouldn't bet against the borough number nine from reaching the 30 goal mark before season end.
