POSITIVE PRE-SEASON CONTINUES

Borough entertained Winsford United on Saturday at the Brian Boys Stadium, and in a end to end 3-3 encounter it was another opportunity for Brent Peters and David Felgate to assess the fitness levels of the squad.

During this pre-season it has been encouraging to witness borough playing strong opposition in the form of Atherton Collieries, FC United and Winsford United, and being able to see the squad compete equally throughout.

The games have also allowed the management to look at some of the new additions that are trying to break into the first team squad for the 2021/22 season. And in all three departments of defence, midfield and attack there is certainly going to be competition for places.

Talking to the manager before the game against FC United last weekend he said. "I have told the players straight. They're all well aware that competition for places this season is going to be tough. You only need to miss one game or perform below par and you could be out of the running for a shirt, it's that tight for places.

"We have strength in depth in all departments. And the new lads entering the fold for the new season have definitely added to the quality we already possess. It will be tough for David and myself to make that call, but you ask any manager, it's a good headache to have."
