The Bacup Borough FC captain Michael Gervin was recently named the North West Counties Division One North Player of the Month for February.
Borough's leader beat off stiff competition to receive the accolade from the league committee, and one that was much deserved after leading the young squad through a good month on the field.
Michael Gervin received the captain's armband after the departure of Laquan Esdaille in the summer of 2020 and ever since has been the leader both on and off the pitch.

Those that know Michael will know of his ability to create moments of magic. His technical ability and vision to see a pass and unlock even the tightest off defences has been his gift.
He also manages the players in a way that demands them to take ownership on the pitch. Each player is well aware of their roles and responsibilities through clear instruction from both the captain and the management on the sidelines, and he does this in a way that steps on players feet without taking the shine off their boots, something that can't be taught.
Talking to the manager Brent Peters, he said; "Michael is a fantastic leader. I have said on many occasions that I don't pick my captains lightly and Michael has been amazing with these players.
"The captain needs to be the manager on the pitch and he does that week in, week out to good effect. Not only does he do that job on the pitch but also away from the club he is constantly in communication with the players making sure that training schedules are being carried out and preparations for games taking place, he's quality."
Michael Gervin takes his role as club captain very seriously and this award is testament to his hard work and character.
