Macron Cup Win For Boro

Bacup Borough booked their place in the second round of the Macron Cup with an impressive 3–0 victory over Thornton Cleveleys at the Brian Boys Stadium.

Manager Brent Peters made several changes to his starting line-up, with Aiden Lancaster moving into midfield, Ben Langley coming into the side at right-back and Sheikh Sohna starting on the right.

Borough took the lead in dramatic fashion after a good effort from Jay Luker struck the hand of Thornton captain Oliver Wilkinson on the goal line. The referee immediately pointed to the spot and showed Wilkinson a red card.

Kyle Siddle stepped up and confidently converted the penalty to give Borough the lead.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Thornton continued to battle and made life difficult for Borough, with the visitors managing to keep the score at 1–0 going into the interval.

Borough stepped up the pressure after the break and eventually found the breakthrough for a second goal.

Ben Langley produced an excellent long ball over the top of the Thornton defence, picking out Kaiden Barlow. As a Thornton defender attempted to guide the ball back towards goalkeeper Oliver Lombard, Barlow had other ideas.

The Borough striker nipped in between defender and goalkeeper before cleverly lofting the ball over Lombard and into the net to make it 2–0.

Both sides made changes as the game progressed, but Borough continued to look dangerous going forward.

Kaiden Barlow was in good form to score twice

The third goal arrived after excellent work from Sheikh Sohna, who created the opportunity for Barlow to grab his second goal of the afternoon and put the result beyond doubt.

Brent Peters had called for a much-improved team performance before kick-off, and his players delivered exactly that.

The 3–0 victory sees Borough progress into the second round of the Macron Cup, where they will face Charnock Richard at home on Saturday 24 October.

Borough now turn their attention back to league action, with a trip to Cumbria on Saturday to face Holker Old Boys.
